The Katu people live in the mountains of south Lao PDR near the Vietnamese border. They belong to one of the 47 ethnic groups of this land. During the Indochina war, the land of the Katu was military target of the American bombers: the Ho Chi Minh trail passed this area and and on their way back from Vietnam, the pilots disposed of their bombs. In lots of field grounds and in the forest the Katu still find active bombs. It ist dangerous to life but common to produce everyday objects as plates, bowls, trough out of the material.
Since a few months a German nutrition researcher comes to the Katu villages asking the people what they are eating. The table is played from the wood. The Katu eat everything they hunt and collect in the nature. The children don`t know any sweets - instead of that they eat ants and flying termites. To help the researcher with her studies, the Katu put frogs and insects in formalin very meticulously.
